A quick confession…
Ok, before I get going on this article, I must fess-up and admit that I didn’t know anything about the ATD conference until David King at the awesome knowledge-sharing platform provider ‘Tribal Habits‘ told me about it, so this article is basically thanks to him…thanks David! 🙂
The Learning & Development Mecca
Ok, pretty much every group has their own ‘Mecca’. In soccer, it’s the (currently underway) World Cup, for hippies, it’s Burning Man, for kids, it’s Disney Land…and, for Learning & Development people, it would seem to be the annual ATD conference in the USA.
Of course, we can’t all afford an annual trip to America to indulge in a four-day sea of ‘All Things Learning & Development’ (although, some lucky few of us will have it paid for by their organsiations), but that’s kind of the point of a ‘Mecca’ isn’t it, it’s a once-in-a-life-time trip to the epicentre of the thing you’re most passionate about.
My chat with David (mentioned above) has already got me super-excited about it, with an event that boasts a veritable embarrassment of Learning & Development riches, including a ‘who’s who in L&D’ list of keynote speakers (they even had Obama speak at one of the events…ok, he’s not ‘L&D’ but still, it’s bloomin’ Barrack Obama for Pete’s sake!!!) and exposure to stuff that we simply don’t get down here in Australia.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be going to an ATD conference. It might not be next year, but it’ll happen…indeed, I’ve already got permission from Mrs Russell! 😉
The next ATD conference is in May next year. For more information click here. In the meantime, here’s a snippet from the ATD website…
