Henry Ford – Creator of possibly the most famous L&D related post ever…

It’s Friday, so time for something a little lighter-hearted.

Rather than the typical ‘L&D Friday Funny’, I thought I’d go with a Learning and Development quote…indeed, possibly the most famous and oft-quoted Learning and Development quote ever.

Henry Ford, who I’m sure needs no introduction, once famously said “The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay”.

As a result, he unwittingly provided Learning and Development Managers around the world with an awesome response to the age-old (and EXTREMELY tedious and naive) question “What happens if we train them and they leave?” of “What happens if we don’t train them and they stay?”.

Henry Ford was a divisive character with perhaps as many things to be criticised for as to be applauded but, certainly for this quote, I think it’s fair to say that those of us in the Learning and Development space can be forever grateful.
